From the coast (Vina del Mar or Valparaiso) hitchhiking on a sailboat to Antofagasta - distance 1100 km, duration two weeks.
On most internet forums I get answers - "It's not the Caribbean, here hitchhiking doesn’t work. There aren’t many travellers sailing in this part of the world". However my opinion is that as with any hitch, much depends on luck and patience.
Please help to find locations of marina, port, campsite etc. where travellers keep their sailboats (remember that I'm only interested in a boat with a sail, because using the engine is not allowed on this trip). I know that leaving/entering the harbour has to be done on the engine, I won’t be able to get around it, but maybe I will be able to reach the boat on the sea kayak?
In the Internet era it may be easier for me to find help or contact the owner of the sailboat, through the websites. If you know them, please let me know.
I'll take lift to any point in the north direction, there doesn’t have to be a single hitch all the way to Antofagasta. This part of the trip will be for me a recovery time after intense physical activity of walking and cycling. If I won’t find a boat, then I would have to cycle to Antofagasta.
