Pulling my 2-wheel desert cart through Atacama Desert in Chile (via San Pedro de Atacama) and Altiplano in Bolivia plus climbing Sajama 6542m, until Lake Titicaca (Copacabana) - distance 1370 km, approximately pace 20-25 km per day, duration two months.
Where can I store the cart in Antofagasta? Generally speaking, at this stage I have to climb from sea level to an altitude over 4000 meters. There will be cold, what means heavier load. I'll follow the paved road from Antofagasta to Baquedano. Over there I’ll turn into the Atacama Desert. I have a good topographical map. An additional advantage is the facts that some of these gravel roads are frequent used by trucks that supply the copper mines. I have no intention of walking along the road all the time, but it is a good backup in case of accident (eg, cart broke down). In the Atacama Desert there are a few interesting places that I would like to see. Topographic landscape shows me if I be able to use shortcuts, a lot depends of the ground quality. Prior to San Pedro de Atacama there is a beautiful Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna).
From San Pedro de Atacama I’ll go to the border with Bolivia. In Atiplano there is marvelous landscape (over 4000 m) - Laguna Colorada and Verde, thousands of flamingos, wilderness, volcanoes, Salar de Uyuni. This is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, I'll have plenty of time to enjoy these views. I have good topographical maps, but only up to around Coipasa Salar. Then, even though the land is no longer a desert, I don’t have even a good road map. As I’ll be avoiding the big cities, I’m looking for the small roads up to Peruvian border in Desaguadero. On the way I wanna climb the highest Bolivian peak - Nevado Sajama 6542m. I need a guide for it. A few days later I’ll re-enter Bolivia again, to Copacabana. I supposed to get 90 day entry permit, but most travellers are getting just 30 days - I would have to fight.
There, I'm looking for a contact (or in La Paz, where I can catch a ride), to be able to pick up my new summer equipment, posted earlier. The freight company contact details is highly appreciated as I would have to send back my desert cart to Sydney or Santiago.
