New Zealand
20 September 2006
Another point of the program in the Pacific islands lead us to the North Island of New Zealand. We travelled by hitchhiking this transport works perfectly here.
Already the first day we reached the Tongariro National Park. 3 dominant volcanoes were still covered with snow, they are unimaginably beautiful.
We decided to trekking, but at a height of 1500m the wind become so strong, that the problem was to maintain the balance. Visibility dropped to a few meters, and we had trouble to navigating. After 6 hours we were forced back to the shelter, where he spent the second night.
Rotorua is famous from the active geothermal sites, in the form of geysers and boiling mud. Interesting to see demonstrations of these forces of nature, but much more difficult was to get used to be with the smell.
One night we have been invited at the village where we were able to watch horse farms and sheep, of which New Zealand is famous. Finally, we visited Auckland, even pleasant metropolis. Quite short stay of 5 days, but definitely worth it.
